Cutting Direction Coordination in a Gear Hobbing Machine
For accurate gear generation, the cutting direction of the hob teeth on a gear hobbing machine must match the tooth direction of the gear being machined. However, because the cutting edges of the hob are arranged along a helical line, they are not perpendicular to the hob axis.
To solve this, the gear hobbing machine rotates the tool holder to a specific angle so that the hob cutting direction aligns with the gear tooth direction.
When cutting spur gears, the tool holder rotation angle equals the helix lead angle of the hob.
When cutting helical gears, the gear hobbing machine determines the rotation angle and direction based on the helix direction and helix angle of the gear.
Proper alignment ensures smooth cutting and high tooth accuracy on the gear hobbing machine.
Accuracy Control in Gear Hobbing Machine Gear Pitch Machining
During gear pitch machining, cumulative errors may occur if the gear hobbing machine worktable indexing system is improperly adjusted or worn. In particular, misalignment or wear of the indexing worm gear pair can directly cause pitch errors.
If such issues are not corrected, the machining accuracy of the gear hobbing machine will decline, resulting in gears that fail to meet precision requirements. Therefore, regular inspection and adjustment of the indexing system are critical for maintaining the accuracy of a gear hobbing machine.
